DIY: Is you hair Breaking? See how you can stop that

My hair growth journey is less than two years and I have experienced serious hair breakage within these months, mostly around my hair edges. It is unbelievable that my hair length is still struggling to grow to that length of a normal healthy hair considering the period that I've had it.

My natural hair type is 4c. The good thing is that i have done all sort of things to my hair that are non protective so I can say what hair practices caused my hair to break most of the time and I am ready to correct it.

Moisturizing my Hair,

I went for a home prepared moisturizing treatment with edible mayonnaise, Olive oil and Coconut oil.  I had it on for about 30 minutes before i washed out. My hair locked in moisture for about three weeks. withing those three weeks, i felt drippings in my scalp like I was sweating. i knew it was still the oil hanging in there. This strengthened my hair and locked in moisture.

Changed my hair dresser,

During the festive season, my hair dresser traveled and I was in need of where to do my hair, I used to know a guy who does good weaves so i visited his salon.
I had the Lady that do my pedicure weave my flat braids before the weaves were attached.
I loosed my hair after one month. By the time i combed it, there was no significant hair breakage or shedding unlike what happens with my regular hair dresser.

Choice of  hair product,

Too much kinds of trending hair products that does this and that and ends up cutting my hair. I haven't used much of them but for the few I've tried there are a lot cons for my hair type.

Some products gets so into the hair to make them so strong and easily break when I comb out. Some products form white flakes when they dry in my hair. this causes my hair to easily break when i comb it out,
Other times it feels like a  rain of dandruff and tiny hairs. I discovered that this was partly the reason why my hair breaks.

Eating foods with the right nutrients.

They say fruits and vegetables add nutrients that generally, nourishes the skin, scalp inclusive. If I have a health scalp, i will sure have a healthy hair. Checked,

Hair care routine,

There was a time when i did my hair every other two weeks. Yes and my hair lines suffered it so much. My sister would have her weave in for a very long time and when she loosens it out. its so long and strong and I now know that too much stress on the hair caused it to break.

Protective hair styles.

There is nothing that breaks my hair like a straight braids with extension. Example, the boxed braids and twists out with hair extension attached, faux locs and hair styles of such kind.
Flat braids works out well for me.
Thank God for crotchet braids, they are so protective. The hair weaves extension and hair styles that involves flat braids are very protective.
I also love to twist out my hair and have it on for a long time whilst wear a wig from time to time is also protective.

Trimming out split ends.

Before I didn't trim my hair for over a year and each time I took out extensions and combed my hair out, I noticed that there are split ends that get tangled and makes it difficult for the comb to run through.
After i trimmed out my split ends, the comb runs through so easily and I experience very insignificant or no breakage at all

Conclusion

A thorough check on what that i have mention above has put me on the right track. It is time you discovered what stressed your hair.

Remember, it is not how long your hair is but how strong and how well you are maintaining the length of you hair.

Now, I'm ready to live and let my hair breath.
