Extreme Heat Kills over 700 Persons in India
For the past weeks, different towns in India has recorded a heat wave with temperature as high as 48 to 50 degree Celsius.
State authorities said that over 400 persons have died in southern India while over 200 persons died in the state of Delhi, towards the north, in the past few days.
Death was mainly recorded in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in southern India. The Sikh Holy city of Amritsar recorded about 48 degree Celsius.
Earlier reports says that majority of death was recorded among poor laborers, elderly workers and people who do not have access to shelter and water. Symptoms seen are, heat exhaustion, heat stroke. dehydration
It was reported that in Kolkata city, taxi drivers lost their lives due to the heat.
The State Authorities are now stopping taxis that cannot run air conditions for five hours from working.
They has also warned that the death toll is expected to continue for days.
Indians have been advising people to stay indoor and drink plenty of water.
