Why Babies Smell Sweet; Get that Sweet Smell.

Body odor:

This is something that no one wants to talk about but it is hard to ignore.

The fact is that all mammals smell right from birth. Animals use their smell to identify themselves and chose a healthy mate.
In humans, one of the ways that new born babies use to identify their mother is the body odor. Babies find the scent of their mothers more comforting than that of other women.
Studies show that our individual scents are as unique as our finger prints.
When anyone is asked, what causes body odor, the first answer that comes to mind is sweat, nahh! sweat is odorless and its only part of the story. That smell is a product of digestion.

So lets break it down for you to understand.

Sweat is produced by two glands: THE ECCRINE GLAND: it covers most of the body and produce sweat consisting of electrolyte and water which cools the skin.

The other is the APOCRINE GLAND: found in groin, arms, feet and underarm. The sweat it produces consist of protein and fatty acid which makes it thicker and appears yellowish or milky in color. This gland produces sweat when the body is experiencing anxiety, nervousness or stress.
When this gland produces sweat, the protein content attracts the bacteria on our body which they eat, digest and expel as highly aromatic fatty acids.

The apocrine gland does not become active until we reach puberty which explains why babies smell sweet and teenegers, not so much.
The fewer the apocrine gland, the less odor the person produces.

HEAD ODOR: An oily scalp causes dandruff and creates breeding ground for bacteria and therefore for odor.
REMEDY: Wash hair with shampoo that contain zinc pyrithione, an anti-funlgal/anti-bacterial agent that can de-germ your scalp. De-germing, keep odors away.

UNDER ARM ODOR: If you are a big sweater, bacterial will breed well under your arm as explained in the Apocrine Gland term.
REMEDY: Always trim the hair. Use antiperspirant stick and deodorants at the same time. Antiperspirant plugs your sweat glands and cause it to stop excreting sweat. Deodorants is used for the scent it gives and must contain triclosan, an anti-bactrial agent which makes the area inhospitable. Use antiperspirants that contain about 12% to 20% alcohol. You can apply the antiperspirant at night because at that time, you sweat less and it's more active.

BODY ODOR FROM BATHING: Bathing well and using anti-bacterial soap will go a long way in reducing or eliminating odor.
Not toweling your body well dried after bathing can cause body odor. It leaves moisture under those those hidden areas of your body and makes it conducive for bacteria to breed.
REMEDY: Because it takes bacterial hours to digest the protein from these sweat pores, the sooner we wash it away, the less chances for the smell. Ensure you dry your body well and thoroughly, even under a fan. Try sprinkle an anti-fugal absorbent powder on your body, toes or in shoes.

BODY ODOR FROM FOOD: Food that contain curry, red meat, onion, garlic, and other strong spices doesn't only cause bad breath but also body odor. After these foods are digested, they are absorbed into the blood stream and released through the lungs and pores. pores are where the sweat comes out through and this passes the odor.  This process can last for hours.
REMEDY: Reduce intake of odor producing food, reduce intake of sweat producing foods like caffeine and chilies. Chew some minty seeds, candy, etc after meal until your food digests.

If you want to go natural, try using products that contains lemongrass, tea tree, sage, chamomile.

If you want to know if you still have a body odor do the following:
After a through day at work, school, play, anything but a typical day, remove your shirt or dress, get a plastic bag that is odor free and well aired, put the cloth in the plastic bag and seal or tie it up.
Go take your bath, make sure you open the windows of your room to get rid of the odors and relax to also get rid of the odor in you memory. After some hours, go open the bag and sniff. tell yourself the truth about what you smell.

Because everybody's body chemistry is not the same, some things might work while others won't.
