See How Stress Leads to Addiction

Different people live different life styles. from bad habits to good ones and awkward ones.
People smoke, drink, love to listen to music, eat a lot or just do a particular thing over and over.

Water, coffee, biscuit, coca-cola, sugar, What is your addiction?

Stress to addiction, What are you addicted to

Most times we judge them by our reasoning and tag a bad name to their person. Right now I no longer buy that, I know a little more than before.

To commemorate the International Women's day held in the 8 march 2015, a seminar was organized for all the ladies in my office.
The topic that was discussed was stress management. I participated in every way and captured my learning points. from causes of stress, response to stress and stress indicators.

I heard a lot of new things anyway.

I am sharing thing because today, I have confirmed that stress can lead to an addiction and I will prove it to you.

Fact 1: Stress can Lead to an Addiction.

A lot of modern offices always set up a tea or coffee corner in the work areas. Have you ever noticed some particular persons in you office who must take tea or coffee every morning or at mid day when they are getting engrossed in their work?

There are other ones like me who must take a particular kind biscuit or nuts along side tea and the others who take nothing at all.
Now the question, is this a habit or a normal meal?

In the course of our workshop, a question was asked, How many of you can't do without taking in a particular fluid or food everyday?

The question popped our brain. So many of us, must scoop three teaspoonful of coffee into a medium sized mug filled with hot water, with little or no sugar and will drink it over and over again, as long as there is work to do. some other just keep the coffee jug beside them so they can just keep drinking.

This is not a habit, this is an addiction caused as a result of stress. Stress is an imbalance between demands and resources and Stressors (causes of stress) are anything that can induce a stress reaction.

Have you notice some particular daily activities, where you always eat or drink a particular thing and it makes you feel good. If yes, you are stressed or tensed but you don't feel that way. You take those things to induce what you feel.

Addiction

If it continues for a long time, then it is an addiction.

Examples of Stressful Situations that leads to Addiction:

Addiction to Coffee:

A colleague of mine, an auditor, loves to take coffee while working. She practically feels incomplete whenever she is working and not drinking something and the only thing is loves to drink is coffee.

Addicted to coffee

One weekend, her sister told me restless my friend was the night before. When she realized she hadn't had enough coffee for that day, she quickly got up, took a cup of coffee and then slept like a baby. Now that is addiction.
Some one may say it is the caffeine but I will share another story.

Addiction to Coca-Cola:

My colleague at my formal workplace is in love with coca-cola. She must have at least 5 bottles before the close of the day. Any day she is working and not sipping her bottle it means she is short of her coca-cola dose.

She will suddenly start feeling sick and dull. The next minute she remembers it is the coca-cola and rush to buy a bottle. What is in the coke that she is addicted to?

My Addiction Story

A lady usually bring a particular biscuit to my office every morning. initially, i thought I just liked the taste of the biscuit. For the past three months, i eat at least two packets everyday. I even bought on credit whenever I do not have cash.
addicted to sugar, candy, biscuit

this morning, she told me she was running short of supplies and i asked her to get me a carton, really!. may be there is something in the biscuit that I am addicted to.
As i am writing this, she is on her way with my carton of biscuits but I'm sorry for my self , I will have to send it back because I have just realized what this means.

I will probably find a friend in drinking water. Wait a minute, I just saw this article on aquaholic.

Addicted to Water:

I ready a story about a certain Sarah who is addicted to drinking water. This caused her to dash to the toilet at every instance See her story here

She probably would have to deal with bladder problems and bed wetting

Lessons learnt

It could be some external stuff but my concern here is what we take in - sugar salt, coffee, pepper, candy etc. I thing. We need to check our food lifestyle- and discover how we handle stress.

I will love to share an article on Stress, culled from my women's day workshop and people's experiences. At the end, you will know if you are stressed and the common things that causes stress

Good news

I pledge to stop eating biscuit, sugar and even water.

What are you addicted to?
