"Kunu Aya" Tiger Nuts Milk is Heavenly. See recipe.

Kunu is a common drink in the northern part of Nigeria.

I know about Kunu Zaki ( from millet), Kunu gyada (from groundnut) and Kunu aya ( from Tiger nut).

I have taken Kunu Zaki but wasn't really a fan of Kunu generally.

I saw my friend enjoying a bottle of kunu. When she offered me some, I quickly turned it down and persuaded me to taste it. Once I did, I loved it..

I asked her to put me through on the recipe.

It is simply:

Main Ingredients

  • Tiger Nuts - as much as you want.

Optional Ingredients (choose according to preference. you can also use both)

  • Dates - qty depends on how sweet you want you Kunu. Dates are naturally sweet.

  • Coconut - qty depends on how sweet you want you Kunu.

  • Ginger - as much as you want it but preferably just little.

You will also need

  • A Blender
  • Water
  • strainer (cloth or mesh)
  • containers for storage.

Steps for making "Kunu Aya" (Tiger nuts Milk)

  • Ensure to wash the tiger nuts thoroughly because of the next step. (You wouldn't want dirty water to soak into the tiger nuts)
  • Soak the tiger nuts overnight to hydrate it and allow it to swell a little.
  • whether dates or coconut, prepare your preference. For dates - cut open and remove the seed. For coconut, scoop the flesh from the shell. For ginger, peel the right quantity u desire Wash thoroughly
  • Put all in a blender with little water and blend.
  • pour the blend into a strainer. squeeze out the milk. the first milk would be thick.
  • Put back the chaff into the blender. Add little water and blend again.
  • Strain out the second time. and discard the chaff.
  • Always serve chilled.
Here mine.

I have tasted tiger nuts/coconut and tiger nuts/dates, my preference will always be Tiger nuts and Coconut.

Try out this recipe and share your preference.
